Family Business Practicum (BUS474-CEL) connects theory to practice with a combination of coursework and internship placement at family-owned firms in the Bay Area. It builds on learning from course BUS378.
Students will explore the many ways that businesses, families, neighborhoods, and individuals experience and express their identities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The class is designed as a safe and accepting space for discussing income inequality, race/ethnicity, economic development, gentrification, and social justice in relation to family businesses.
Students will also conduct a comparative analysis between family business theory and actual practices in a family business of their choice. Since 80% of participants are adult children of family-business owners, they often choose their parents’ business as a focus.
